Scott: We are talking Dr. Peter Glidden, naturopathic doctor here in Chicago. We're at the Health Freedom Expo. One ofthe things that you talk about quite a bit is everybody is undernutrified. Canyou talk about that a little bit? How do we know how bad off we are?

Peter Glidden: Well, we are in the middle of agiant health epidemic here in the United States and to a lesser extent in theworld. Just look around. Everybody's sick.

Scott: Mm-hmm.

Peter Glidden: Spend an afternoon at Home Depotor Walmart, it's like the walking wounded, right?

Scott: Yeah.

Peter Glidden: The average American, apparently, this is June, 2011, is on 11 prescription medicines. 11 prescription medicines. This is not because we have a bad gene. This is not because we've cursed byGod. It's because we are all unwittingly eating food that' hurting us, becausewe had no prudent, good, science-based, clinically verified counsel aboutwhat's good good and what's bad food. And most importantly, everybody in theUnited States is under-nutrified and here is why.

My colleague, Dr. Wallach, from '70 to '82 wasin charge of $25 million of federally funded research. His researchunequivocally proved, this is not arguable, this is an academic fact, that thehuman body has 91 essential nutrients. There are 91 essential nutrients thatmust be imported into the body everyday. 91. 60 of the 91 are minerals, thingslike calcium, phosphorous and silica. Right? The problem with minerals is,they're only found in one place. They are in the soil. Or sometimes, they arein the water, but if they are in the water, they're there because they washedinto the water from the soil.

The problem is, there is no place in the UnitedStates, because of agricultural farming and also because of mother nature'sgeology, that all 60 minerals exist. So this row of the cornfield, there mightbe 12 minerals. The next row, there might be 17. The next row there might be25. The corn only needs six to grow. The human body needs 60. Six- zero. So, ifthis is how much nutrition the human body needs to be healthy everyday, this ishow much that's in our foods.

And then the stress of life whittles away at ourreserves, and something breaks. And then, we go to a medical doctor who givesus a prescription drug to manage the symptom. We go from bad to worse. We aregoing to hell in a hand basket here because we've MDs drive the bus of medicinefor the last 100 years and that's a problem.
